Hyundai Invests $5 Million in the American Center for Mobility

Last month, news broke that the Hyundai American Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) had entered into a long-term relationship with the American Center for Mobility (ACM) to advance connected and automated vehicle (CAV) technologies. To aid the cause, HATCI is contributing $5 million toward the creation of a collaborative testing environment in southeast Michigan.

ACM is building a world-class facility at the historic Willow Run site in Ypsilanti Township, Michigan, where companies can collaborate to develop CAV and mobility technologies, as well as creating standards and educational programs.

The facility will provide a unique testing ground that allows for repeatable, controlled testing that helps to improve the safety of driver-assistance systems and CAV technologies. Testing emphases will include sensor technology development, vehicle/infrastructure communication, severe testing conditions that involve various weather scenarios, and developing specifications for various infrastructure situations.

In a press release, Andy Freels, President, HATC, noted, “Hyundai’s investment supporting ACM strengthens our long-term commitment to the advancement of safety and mobility through automated vehicle technology. As a founding member, we will help set the direction for CAV standards and test advanced technologies in a safe environment for the North American customer."

Our showroom at 4025 West Loop 289 proudly serves Hyundai drivers from throughout the greater Lubbock area.
